Anne had a frank and interesting friendship to Gilbert Blythe, who is 2 years younger but is studying at the same level as Anne. Gilbert's dad fell ill, which slowed his education. Gilbert called Anne Carrots on their first encounter. Amybeth McNulty portrays Anne, age 13 and has lived in an orphanage as well as the home of strangers. In the latter part of 1890, Anne is sent away to live with the elderly brothers Marilla as well as Matthew Cuthbert who live on Prince Edward Island.
